Stabbings in China

This article "Seven Injured In Another Stabbing In China" by  is about how 7 people have been stabbed by a man with a cleaver on their way home from school. 6 were students and the last was a lady.

In the article it says "In recent years, China has faced a string of sometimes deadly attacks on schoolchildren," This means schoolchildren from China have already been encountered before with deadly attacks. It says that the people that do these attacks use kitchen knives because guns are illeagal in China. In the article it also says " a mentally-ill man in December went on a stabbing spree outside of a school in Henan province, injuring 23 students and one adult."

If I had a son/daughter living in China I would not let them go to school. I would try to move out of China. China's government need to do something about the killing sprees and figure out why this is happening. I wouldn't let students or schoolchildren go to school because of the crazy people going on killing sprees.

If these killing sprees happend in Philadelphia, parents wouldn't even let their kids outside. I think it would be worst over here becuase their is no gun law. I also think it would be stopped because of our government and police. The crazy people in China have to be stopped

Korean War

This article "Korean War 2?" by Choe Sang-Hun in Seoul is about how the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is trying to send missiles to the U.S. It talks about North and South Korea past, and about them now.

In the article it says that Donald Gregg a former U.S. ambassador to South Korea say "'The Korean peninsula is heading into a difficult and very dangerous period' This means if the North Korea do Send a bomb over to the U.S. it will be bad for them.  South Korea is doing better than North Korea. South Korea has a large population, more money, better economy,  and a better democracy.

I think that Kim Jong Un won't start a war. He knows that he will lose if he do. He does spend most of his money on his military, but i think they will lose. I think so because Kim's army in not wealthy. In the article it says that millions of people starved. So that tells me they have no money.

He don't want to start a war with the U.S. It could lead to something he will regret. He have no power what so ever.

Raise in Minimum Wage

In the article "Time For A Raise" by Patricia Smith is about how President Obama is trying to raise minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $9.00 an hour. He wants to because prices are going up everywhere for everything and these people need more money to afford these high prices.

In the article people President Obama say "the differences between groceries or the food bank, rent or eviction  scraping by or finally getting ahead. For businesses across the country, it would mean customers with more money in their pockets." This means that this could be better for people to live their life a little better from this raise. Other people say that making workers cost more will lead to unemployment.

I think that it would be a good idea. I think so because it would put more money in peoples pockets. It will help them pay for things they need. I also think it would be a bad  idea. I think so because people might get laid off because store owners might not be able to afford them. If the store owner push up their salary other workers might want their salary raised. Then if they don't get a raise they will probably quit.

I don't have a job yet, but if i did i would be a little bit happier to make 9 dollars an hour from 7.25 dollars an hour. That more money in your pockets. It could be a good thing for someone 16-25 years old with no kids or girlfriend/boyfriend. I think so because you don't have to worry about caring about anyone. You can buy your own stuff.  You can provide for yourself.

I picked these articles because it shows how these basketball players are clutch. They can do big things while their playing the game they love. They can make shots to win games. They can get double-doubles. My poem say about the articles that these players are very good, and some of them are the best in the NBA. I think making a found poem can be fun and creative. You're using other peoples word and turn them into a creative poem about what ever you want. Making a found poem to me was very easy. I do think creating a found poem was worth it. It's fun, you can be creative. You can talk about anything.

Slaughter of the Elphants

The article "Slaughter of the African Elephants" by Samantha Strindberg  and Fiona Maisels is about how hunters are killing lots of elephants in Africa for ivory. It talks about how elephants are dying and what can people do to prevent elephants from dying.

In the article it says that the hunters/poachers are killing the elephants to use their tusk for ivory, so that the people in Africa can sell it to the people in China for money or something in return. In the articles it says that 62 percent of elephants went extinct from central Africa between 2002 through 2011.

I think that they should stop killing elephants. Killing these elephants is like killing them selves, because elephants play a big part in nature. The help with giving the world fresh air, and without fresh air we can't breath. Over in Africa it's hot. I think being hot and have no air couldn't be good mixture of any sort. I think what these Africans are doing to these elephants will hurt, not only Africa but the whole world, in the long run.

This article makes me think that some people don't care about what is happening over in Africa. That China and other countries on the Far East don't care about the elephants as long as they're getting their ivory. I notice that some people care because their is an article about it. This needs to stop. When they are killing these elephants they are killing nature, and by that they are killing other spices.

Lakers 8th Seed

The article "NBA Playoffs 2013: Lakers Take Over 8th Seed, Why They Will Make Postseason" by Frankie Garcia is about how the Los Angeles Lakers took the number 8 seed in the NBA playoffs from the Utah Jazz.

In the article it talks about how the Lakers will be in a better position than the Jazz. In the article it say "the Lakers are just a game behind the Rockets and two games behind the struggling Warriors". This means that the Lakers can become the 6th seed before the playoffs.

I think the Lakers will make it to the playoffs. I think so because the Lakers is on a hot win streak and from the looks of it they can become the 6th seed. Utah wont make it. There next 4 games are against, Memphis Grizzlies, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs.

Kobe is hurt now will he come back? Will his injury change the way the Lakers play or will it encourage the Lakers to even play harder? If he do come back will he play different because of his injury? Do the Lakers need Kobe to win games?

Women Join the Army

The article "Sisters In Arms" by James Dao is about women joining the army. Some people disagree with this and some think  is good to finally have women in combat.

In the article it talks about how women went to the army but not to fight, to help or works as medics and other jobs. In the article it says that people questioned if women will be able to do the physical stuff the men can do such as, "wearing heavy armor and carrying packs that can weigh 100 pounds". The article also says that what if women choke when it come down to shooting/killing someone.

I don't think that women wont choke when it comes down to shooting/killing someone, because the women know what they singed for. They know they have to kill. I think that women is ready for the physical challenges. It would be a good thing to have women fight with the men.

My step dad was in the army before. Back then women wasn't allowed to fight with the men. So this is a major change in the U.S. I have thoughts of going to the army. I think it would be good experience to fight with women. Hear what they would have to say about ideas in combat. Like a woman's view of things.

Cyber Warfare

The article "Cyber War" by Patricia Smith is about how Iran is hacking the U.S. to damage and hurt the people of the U.S. At the same time the U.S. is hacking Iran.

In the article it talks about how hackers from Iran can derail U.S. trains. Therefore they can control our power. Iran can also poison our water. Hackers from Iran can also shut down the power across the whole U.S. In the article it states that the Hackers "took offline some of America's largest banks--including Wells Fargo and PNC-- and disrupted the online banking websites of Capitol One and BB&T. So, people probably lost money, during this action.

I think this will worsen over time because technology is getting better everyday. I think so because now the U.S. got drones and over time the U.S. could have robots. Iran is already have the power to cut off are power, to hurt U.S. citizens. It could worsen over time.

Would the U.S. invade and take over Iran like they did Iraq and other little countries? Would Iran try to come over to the U.S. and destroy our technology. Would the U.S. send nuclear bombs over to Iran. This article make me wonder if the U.S. make robots to fight in battles.

Lebron Does Not Agree with MJ

The article "Lebron disagrees with Jordan" by Michael Wallace is about how Lebron don't think that Michael Jordan is right to say Kobe is better then him because of rings.

The article talks about what Lebron thinks on what Jordan say about picking Kobe over him. Jordan said that he will pick Kobe over Lebron because Kobe has more rings than Lebron. Lebron says he don't care what Jordan say about the rings because "rings don't always define someones career." Lebron also says that if rings does define someones career than he would pick Bill Russell over Jordan because Bill have 11 rings and Jordan have 6. But every/anybody knows that Jordan was the best player that ever played.

I think Jordan was wrong to say that Kobe was better because of rings. It takes a team to get a ring not just one player. If Jordan was to say Kobe was better he should of talked about statistics. I think that Kobe is better than Lebron; but no one can really compare them to together because Kobe played more years than Lebron. My favorite basketball player is Kobe and i disagree to say that he is better because of rings.

I wonder if legends will argue against Jordan for this decision. Will some legends agree with Jordan and say that 5 rings is better than 1 ring. Do NBA fans agree or disagree with Jordan decision?  This reminds of when people was comparing Kobe to Jordan.

Valentine's Day

The article "Historical Incorrect Canoodling" by Stephanie Coontz is about the history of Valentines Day. Where it Valentines Day came from and why it started.

In the article it explains that Valentines Day started to replace "a festival honoring Juno, the Roman goddess of love and marriage" and another "Roman fertility festival of Lupercalia". Valentines Day back in A.D. did not represent a day of love, they wanted to take the love out of the day. Lupercalia happens every Feb 15, boys would pick a girl name out of a jar and the girl name that comes up is now that boy "sexual partner for the rest of the year." It also says in the article that the people married without loving one another.

I think it was a good idea to start Valentines Day to take out these festival because girls could not say that they didn't want to participate. The girls in the Lupercalia would just have to have sex with that boy all year and have no say in anything. I don't think it was a good idea to try and take the romance out of Valentines Day.

I wonder what happened from then and now that Valentines Day is all about romance, and being with the one you care about and love. I don't understand why did they marriage without love. What was the point of marrying some one if you don't love them? Did marriage have a different meaning back in the day, then what it is now?

Being Tracked by Your Cellphone

In the article "Are You Being Tracked" by Patrica smith is about how police can track people down         by their cellphones.

In the article it says ",cellphones tracking technology was used mainly by federal agents in counter-terrorism operations and drug investigations." This means that cellphone tracking was use primarily for terrorists and drug investigation. The article also says "Investigators can determine where someone's phone was by using phone records that show the phone's location at the beginning and end of a call." This means that investigators can track you down by your phone's locations. From when you called and when you hang up.

I think it is a good idea that police and investigators made up this technology. I think so because it saves people lives. It find missing people. It find killers, drug dealers, thieves and other criminals. Help take them off the streets. Making the city a better place.

Would this technology back fire in some type of way? Will criminals find another ways to communicate without using phones?

New Face of America

The article "The New Face of America" by Veronica Majerol is about minority. How their is a majority of white people in the U.S.. They are saying over time that their shouldn't be majority of white people it should decrease.

In the article it says "Whites still make up the majority (63 percent) of the U.S. populations." This means that the whit people make up 63 percent of our world. In the article it says ", in the last three decades immigration to the U.S. has been highest from countries like Mexico, China, India, and the Philippines. This means in the last 10 years a lot of people have been being immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico, China, India and the Philippines. In the article is says ",non-whites have higher birth rates than whites. And finally, the white population in the U.S. is getting older, and older people tend to have fewer children." This means that there would be more non-whites soon because white people get old and not have children. Therefore their would be less white babies and people.

I think that by 2050 there would be more Latinos and Black people than White. I think so because White people sometimes only have on or two kids. Their kids might grow up and decide they don't want any babies. Black and Latinos on the other hand be having like 8 babies

What if the White peoples percentage increase back up to what it was? What would the percentage be if Mexicans, Indians, Chinese people, and Philippians stop coming to america?

Lance Armstrong, Another Chance

The article "Give Lance another chance?" by CNN is about a bunch of people from CNN talking about if Lance Armstrong deserve to be forgiving for what he did. For taking steroids and cheating while cycling. Some people say he should be forgiving because everybody took steroids and cheated. Some people say no he shouldn't because he kept lying to America about him not taking steroids.

In the article Kevin Powell says we all have are falls. He stated "We all have our flaws, we all fall short as human beings. So, yes, I do think anyone can be redeemed, and should be given another chance if he shows true remorse and make amends for his bad deeds." This means that Kevin Powell think that Lance Armstrong should be forgiving because everybody is not perfect or flawless. In the article Roxanne Jones says he's not trustworthy. She stated "Lance Armstrong, who maliciously lied for more than a decade, who I watched from my sideline seat in sports try to crush the voice of anyone who dared to call him a cheater. No, he gets no second chance from me." This means that she don't want to forgive Lance Armstrong for his lying and cheating.

If you ask me, I would forgive him. Everybody lie and cheat in cycling. Also, Lance Armstrong did a lot for America. He did a lot for charities.

If Lance Armstrong would of said he did do steroids and cheated the first time the reporters ask him; would people follow his charities and support him like people been doing?

Syrian Civil War

This article "Civil War in Syria Raises Questions About When to Intervene" by Ja'anai Delaney is about if the U.S. should get involved with Syrian Civil War. Some people think we shouldn't because we have are own problems to handle. Some say we should because it's wrong that Assad is killing all them people. The government say we will get involved if they start using chemical weapons.

In the article it says "While the U.S. and its allies support the anti-regime groups, they have said they will not intervene military unless Assad uses chemical weapons." This means the U.S. will not send troops over to Syria to fight unless Assad uses chemical weapons. In the article it also says "Temporary camps built to house large numbers of refugees are only a short-term solution," This means that the people who are leaving Syria because of the war are being put in a refugee camp for a short period of time.

I think we shouldn't get involved. I think so because the U.S. is already in a huge debt and it will cost a lot of money to put armed troops over to Syria and to get them back home.

Will armed troops still be sent to Syria? Will Assad use chemical weapons? Will the government decide to not send troops over to Syria?

Kids Are More Anxious, Depressed

The article "All Work and No Play: Why Your Kids Are More Anxious, Depressed" by Esther Entin is about how kids unorganized play-time is being decreased and or stop in most places.

In the article it says "'Since bout 1955... children's free play has been continually declining, at least partly because adults have exerted ever-increasing control over children's activities. This means the children's free play is declining because adult are taking over there play. In the article is also says "children in 1997 spent less time in play and had less free time. They spent 18 percent more time at school, 145 percent more time doing school work, and 168 percent more time shopping with parents." This means that kids free time have been decreasing because adults make them go with them to go shopping. The adults make them go to school at a young age and they don't let their kids be kids.

I think that parents should stop trying to control their kids childhood. Most parents tell their kids what to play and how to play it. When I was a kid my mom would never tell me and my friends what to play or how to play it. We just use to play it and we make rules as we go along.

Will some parents stop controlling their child's childhood? Would they let their kids be to play? Will parents stop putting their kids in school at 3?

School Closings in Philadelphia

The article "Philadelphia superintendent identifies schools he intends to close" by Kristen A. Graham is about how the schools in Philadelphia are closing for financial reasons and student in enrollment. Some schools are moving to other locations. Some schools are being combined with other schools.

In the article it says "Shaw Middle School in Southwest Philadelphia has 193 students in a building that  has room for 1,071." This means the school can hold 1,071 students but only have 193 students. The School District of Philadelphia cant afford to keep the school open or to pay for their utilities. In the article it also says "Next year, Strawberry Mansion students would be sent to Benjamin Franklin High." This means that the students from Strawberry Mansion are going to be moved to Benjamin Franklin High School.

I think it's not a good idea to combine the schools that they are trying to combine together. Like Communications Tech High into Bartram High School and  Robeson High into Sayre. I think the School District of Philadelphia will save a lot of money.

Would it be hard for students to get to their new school?  Will it be hard for students to get into another school.
